Kenny and I left the creepy campground as fast as we could that morning and headed to Galena, Illinois, which is in the National Register of Historical Places. The town was settled in the 1820s, and the architecture of the downtown area is really something to see- you feel like you're on a Hollywood movie set. Main Street is lined with shops, art galleries, eateries, antique stores, and even an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. So cute! The town was a little bit out of the way, but I'm glad we decided to stop there...Take a look.
We left Galena and headed north to Wisconsin. The only reason we wanted to go to Wisconsin was to eat some cheese... and to say that we had been there..and it was on the way to Minneapolis & St. Paul, which was our next big city stop. I don't have many pictures of Wisconsin because it was getting dark so picture this- corn fields and some cat-tail looking weeds with big white poofs at the ends. Kenny and I spent the last 3 hours of the night on the "Lost Highway" which consisted of winding turns at 40 miles per hour, no street lights, and unexpected route changes for 100 miles. That was tough. I slept like a rock once we settled into a KOA campground in Oakdale, Wisconsin.
