Minneapolis & St. Paul Part 2

As you probably have noticed we are a couple days behind posting blogs since we are moving around a bunch. Stay tuned as we will generally add 2 at a time.

The second day was supposed to be another shopping day in downtown Minneapolis. We were told that Nicollet Mall was a great place to go and experience some upscale shopping. However we weren't that impressed. It might be that we didn't try hard enough or the fact that the district wasn't put together that well. All of the shops were spaced far apart with office building filling the gaps. If I'm wrong you can correct me but we didn't see anything that wasn't in the Mall of America a few miles away. From what I have read recently many of the store fronts have been bought-out by big corporations. For example one of the original department stores Dayton's was sold and converted into a Macy's. Needless to say the only money we spent was $9.00 on 2 hours of parking.

We left Minneapolis and moved on to St. Paul which is right across the river. St. Paul is less than half the size of it's twin and is a little more appealing to me. We drove around, street to street. We stopped in for dinner at Mickey's Diner which is the oldest diner car in the country. The funny part is it was built in New Jersey which is what we were trying to get away from in the first place. It has been open 24/7 since 1937. We both enjoyed a burger with hash brown fries and a cup of Mulligan Stew. The food is cooked two feet from you and we waited 5 minutes to eat. A great experience and good food for the money.
